Sr. Madeline Welch, OSU, a canonist and former provincial of the Ursulines of the Eastern Province USA, passed away on January 8, 2013.
Sr. Madeline earned her civil law degree in 1974 from Fordham University, and in 1975, she was admitted to the New York State Bar. Fourteen years later, she received her JCL from the Angelicum in Rome.
Sr. Madeline has been a member of the Canon Law Society since 1973. She was active in both civil and canon law, serving as an attorney with the Community Legal Aid Society, as the deputy director for legal service for the Ministry of Caring, and as the director of legal services to the Leadership Conference of Women Religious and the National Association of Treasurers of Religious Institutes.
