Reverend David J. Walkowiak, a priest from the Diocese of Cleveland, was named bishop of Grand Rapids, Michigan, by His Holiness Pope Francis on April 18, 2013.
was born in Cleveland in 1953 and was ordained to the
priesthood in 1979. A member of the CLSA since 1983, he holds a doctorate in canon law. While serving as a Vice Chancellor in the Diocese of Cleveland and as a faculty
member at St. Mary Seminary, he was also an Associate Judge of
the Appellate Tribunal for the Province of Cincinnati.
Bishop-elect Walkowiak currently serves as the
pastor of St. Joan of Arc parish in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He succeeds Bishop Walter Allison Hurley - whose resignation from the pastoral care the Holy Father accepted, upon having reached the age limit - as the 12th Bishop of Grand Rapids.
