Reverend David J. Walkowiak, a priest from the Diocese of Cleveland, was named bishop of Grand Rapids, Michigan, by His Holiness Pope Francis on April 18, 2013.

Bishop-elect Walkowiak was born in Cleveland in 1953 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1979. A member of the CLSA since 1983, he holds a doctorate in canon law. While serving as a Vice Chancellor in the Diocese of Cleveland and as a faculty member at St. Mary Seminary, he was also an Associate Judge of the Appellate Tribunal for the Province of Cincinnati.

Bishop-elect Walkowiak currently serves as the pastor of St. Joan of Arc parish in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He succeeds Bishop Walter Allison Hurley - whose resignation from the pastoral care the Holy Father accepted, upon having reached the age limit - as the 12th Bishop of Grand Rapids.

Please join the CLSA in extending warm congratulations to bishop-elect Walkowiak.
