Monsignor Anthony Borrelli of the Catholic Diocese of Columbus died early Thursday morning, April 24, 2014. He was 83 years old.
Monsignor Borrelli earned his licentiate in canon law in 1957 from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. In addition to numerous parish and chaplain appointments during his priesthood, he served as an advocate, pro tem notary, judge instructor, judicial vicar, adjutant judicial vicar, and senior canonist for the Diocesan Tribunal of Columbus, culminating in 57 years of service. In recognition of his contributions and service to the Church, he was named Prelate of Honor by His Holiness John Paul II in 1992. A long-time member of the Canon Law Society, Monsignor Borrelli recently celebrated his 60th anniversary of ordination.
Monsignor Borrelli was laid to rest in the priests' section at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Lockbourne, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, he requested that donations be made to the Msgr. Anthony Borrelli Fund for the Care of Priests at The Catholic Foundation, 257 East Broad Street, Columbus.
