Dear CLSA Members:
I am pleased to announce that Rev. Roger Keeler, JCD has accepted the position of Executive Director (formerly Executive Coordinator) of the Canon Law Society of America. Fr. Keeler succeeds Sr. Sharon Euart, RSM, JCD who left the position in February to become Executive Director of the Resource Center for Religious Institutes in Silver Spring, MD.
Fr. Keeler is a priest of the Archdiocese of Edmonton, Alberta in Canada who has been working in the United States. He is a member of the CLSA, and of the Canadian Canon Law Society when serving in Canada. Fr. Keeler has extensive background as a teacher, professor and practitioner of canon law. He also has wide experience in parish ministry, religious and liturgical education and parish and diocesan administration. Fr. Keeler is especially well-known for his pastoral style of leadership and creativity.
Fr. Keeler was ordained in 1984 and is currently Assistant Professor at the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas, and Judicial Vicar for the Appellate Court for the Dioceses of Texas. Previously he has served as pastor of several parishes; as Auditor at the Alberta Regional Tribunal, then as Judicial Vicar; as professor at Newman Theological College and St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta, both in Edmonton; and as a member and contributor to various boards and commissions of the Archdiocese of Edmonton. He has also been a director of retreats, preacher of missions, and facilitator of workshops. His academic background includes an M.Th. in systematic theology and a Ph.D., J.C.D. from the University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University.
I want to thank Past-President Fr. John Vaughan and Vice President-President Elect Msgr. Michael Souckar for their invaluable assistance on the search committee which led to offering the Executive Director position to Fr. Keeler. Thanks are also due to Sr. Sharon for her strong leadership that did so much to move the Society forward during her tenure, and whom we wish very well in her new position. We look forward to Fr. Keeler’s leadership and service to the Canon Law Society of America. Fr. Keeler will arrive in Washington to assume his duties as Executive Director on August 1 and we all look forward to welcoming him to his new position at the Annual Convention in St. Louis in October.
Rev. Phillip J. Brown, S.S., JD
