Sr. Mary Ann Andrews, CSA (formerly Sr. Francis Xavier), a Sister of Charity of St. Augustine for 62 years, and CLSA member for 35 years, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013.
Sister was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 29, 1932 to Francis Xavier and Margaret (Monahan) Andrews. One of five children, she was baptized in 1932 at St. Ignatius Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and on September 8, 1951 she entered the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine. She pronounced final vows on August 22, 1957. In May of 1977 she received a Master’s Degree in Church Administration, and in May of 1978 she received a Licentiate in Canon Law (JCL), both from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. In 1978, after she received her Licentiate in Canon Law, she became the Assistant to the Chancellor for the Diocese of Cleveland, and then moved to the Diocesan Tribunal as Secretary-Notary and Defender of the Bond. In 1986, Sr. Mary Ann was again elected to Leadership as Councilor in the Congregation, and served in that capacity until 1993. From 1993 to 1995 she was a full-time member of the Diocesan Tribunal. From 1995 to 1998 she was President & CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System; and then, from 1998 to 2003 she was a Tribunal Judge for the Cleveland Diocese.
Funeral Mass was held at Mt. Augustine Chapel (5232 Broadview Rd., Richfield) on Saturday, November 30th at 11 a.m., with Bishop Richard G. Lennon as Celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
