Society Elects New Officers

The Canon Law Society of America elected four new officers at the 2014 General Business Meeting, held during the 76th Annual Convention in St. Louis, Missouri.

After voting concluded, Rev. Manuel Viera, OFM of the Diocese of Tucson, Arizona was named Vice President/President-Elect. Rev. Viera is a Franciscan Friar from the Province of St. John the Baptist, Cincinnati and is presently the Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Tucson, Arizona. He earned a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America in 1987 and has been an active member of the Society since 1986.
Mary Gen Blittschau of the Diocese of Evansville, Indiana was elected Secretary. Ms. Blittschau is a Judge and Canonical Consultant for the Diocese of Evansville and Defender of the Bond for the Indiana Provide Tribunal of Second Instance. She earned her JCL at Saint Paul University and has been a CLSA member since 1986.
Patricia Dugan and Rev. Peter Mangum were both elected as Consultors. Patricia Dugan is the Principal of her own law firm in Philadelphia. She has also worked in canon law in various capacities since earning her JCL in Rome in 1989. Most recently, she has served the CLSA as Chair of the Nominations Committee and as a member of the Church Governance Committee.
Rev. Peter Mangum is the Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Shreveport, Louisiana. Rev. Mangum is currently the pastor and rector of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Shreveport. He received his JCL at the Gregorian University in Rome in 1991 and has been a CLSA member since 1990.
