Msgr. Harmon D. Skillin, a retired priest and canonist from the Diocese of Stockton, passed into eternal rest on Friday, May 22, 2015.
A member of the Society for nearly fifty years, Skillin was asked to become the first canon lawyer for the Diocese of Stockton after the diocese's creation in 1962. In 1966, he earned his doctorate in canon law from The Catholic University of America. He would go on to serve at various parishes in Lodi and Stockton, and he later served as Vicar of Priests and Judicial Vicar for the diocese.
In addition to his membership in the CLSA, Skillin was a member and served on boards of the Downtown Rotary of Stockton, Lodi Arts Commission, Stockton Arts Commission, and the Women’s Center of San Joaquin. Within the Society, he served on the Board of Governors, as well as the Committee on Ordination of Women to the Diaconate.
A visitation (5:00pm) and vigil (7:00pm) will be held on Sunday, May 31 at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton. The funeral mass is planned for Monday, June 1 at 10:00am at the Cathedral, and the burial will take place immediately afterward at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.
Please keep Msgr. Skillin, as well as his family and colleagues, in your prayers. May he rest in peace.
