May I ask your prayers for the happy repose of the soul of Father Peter
Kitchen who died early morning on Thursday 3rd April, in Hope Hospital,
Salford. Father Kitchen was in his sixty third year, the thirty eighth
year of his Sacred Priesthood. May he rest in peace.
Peter Kitchen was born in Blackburn on 27 March 1946; he was baptised
in April 1946 at St Alban's, Blackburn; he was confirmed on 22 April
1959 at St Alban's, Blackburn. Peter was educated at Sacred Heart RC
Primary School and St Mary's College, Blackburn, and in the sixth form
at St Bede's College, Manchester.
He began his studies for the priesthood at the Venerable English
College, Rome in September 1964. He was ordained to the Sacred
Priesthood on 20 September, 1970, by the Right Reverend Thomas Holland,
Bishop of Salford, in St Alban's church, Blackburn. He then returned to
Rome in October 1970 to complete his theological studies.
Father Kitchen served the Diocese in the following appointments:
As Assistant Priest:
1971 August St William of York, Great Lever, Bolton
1982 October St Mary, Levenshulme
In 1986 Father Kitchen undertook further studies in Rome obtaining a doctorate in Canon Law.
On his return to the Diocese he worked part-time in the Diocesan
Tribunal in conjunction with his responsibilities in the parish.
