Revised CLSA Sexual Abuse Guide
Tuesday, August 31, 2004
The Guide to the Implementation of the U.S. Bishops' Essential
Norms for Diocesan/Eparchial Policies Dealing with Allegations of
Sexual Abuse of Minors by Priests or Deacons, first issued in February 2003, has been updated by a special Committee of the Canon Law Society of America. This Guide
has proven to be a valuable resource for those who must coordinate
actions necessary due to sexual misconduct by clergy with minors,
namely, with those who reach out to victims of clerical sexual abuse,
bishops who must undertake the legal processes of the Church, clerics
who have been accused of abuse, and canonists who advise these.
The updated version of the Guide incorporates clarifications and textual corrections, made in accord with the papal motu proprio entitled Sacramentum Sanctitatis Tutela
of 2001, the dispensations granted by Pope John Paul II in November
2002 and February 2003, a listing of resources from relevant
publications, and a sample form for the reporting of cases to the
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
This revised Guide is only available on-line, in .PDF format, readable with the free Adobe Reader.
