Pope Names Member Auxiliary Bishop of Boston

Very Reverend Mark O'Connell, priest of the Archdiocese of Boston and former Consultor for the CLSA Board of Governors (2009-2011), has been named Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Boston.

A member of the Canon Law Society since 1990, Bishop-elect O'Connell earned his licentiate and doctoral degrees in canon law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Santa Croce) in Rome. Since his ordination to the priesthood in 1990, he has served in numerous ministerial and canonical roles, including Assistant to the Moderator of the Curia for Canonical Affairs from 2001 to 2007, and Judicial Vicar from 2007 to the present. A faculty member at both Saint John Seminary and Pope John XXIII Seminary, he also serves as the chaplain to the Catholic Lawyers' Guild.
