Office Restructuring Announced; Board Accepting Applicants for Part-Time Executive Coordinator

Father Roger Keeler, Executive Coordinator of the CLSA since 2014, has informed the Board of Governors of his intention not to renew his contract when it expires on August 1 of this year. Father Keeler said he would return to teaching full time at the Oblate School of Theology, San Antonio, Texas. The Board of Governors is grateful for his service to the Society and wishes him well in the future.

Having studied the trends of the last five years, the Board of Governors has decided to restructure the Office of the Executive Coordinator. The position of Executive Coordinator will become part-time, and the new role of General Secretary has been established as a full-time, professional position. Colleen Crawford, the CLSA’s current Executive Assistant, will assume the role of General Secretary for the CLSA Office effective July 1, 2017.

 

As required by the Constitution and Bylaws, the Executive Coordinator must be a CLSA member who is a degreed canonist. The BOG is now actively seeking candidates to fill the part-time position (approximately 20 hours) of Executive Coordinator. The candidate need not reside in  Washington, DC. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. Candidates are asked to send a letter of application and CV to Msgr. John J. M. UPDATED Wednesday, May 10, 2017: 

The travel required to Washington, DC is foreseen as a regular part of the job. It would not necessarily be frequent or require lengthy stays, especially after an initial transition. Other travel may also be necessary. All business-related travel expenses would be borne by the CLSA. 

The Position Description was written to attract a wide range of gifted applicants from far and near. Technology should allow the successful applicant to work easily from anywhere with good Internet access at the expense of the CLSA. 

The successful applicant should have true freedom and flexible hours so that the work this position requires can be accomplished. While the position is certainly part-time, some weeks may require little effort and other weeks may require a large amount of concentrated time. FLEXIBILITY IS KEY REGARDING TIME AND TRAVEL since it is difficult to predict exactly how these elements and individual talents and propensities will evolve. Good time management skills are a must. 

The Executive Coordinator in the new alignment of the CLSA Office has as an important focus on publications, working very closely with the Publication Advisory Board and the General Secretary. In the CLSA Publication Section the Executive Coordinator is delegated as the publisher on behalf of the Society.  While the PAB will provide edited copy of some manuscripts following peer review, the EC will also have editing responsibilities for Proceedings and some other regular publications. Production of high quality works on a regular basis that reflect well upon this professional Society is especially important. The CLSA enjoys not only a wide distribution in the US but throughout the English-speaking world.
