Msgr. Richard G. Cunningham

Msgr. Richard G. Cunningham, a priest of the archdiocese of Boston since his ordination on February 2, 1957 died after a long struggle with cancer at the Regina Cleri Residence, the home for senior priest of the Archdiocese of Boston on December 28, 2009.  

Msgr. Cunningham was born in Boston on November 3, 1930, and named Prelate of Honor by John Paul II on April 21, 1998. Msgr. Cunningham was a long time member of the Canon Law Society and served as President of the Board of Governors in 1986. He was the recipient of the Role of Law Award in 1997. Msgr. Cunningham is survived by three brothers and a sister.

The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11am at St. Paul Church, 502 Washington Street (MA Route 16), Wellesley, MA (781-235-5907 Stpaulwellesley.com).  Sean Cardinal O’Malley, OFM Cap. will be the Principal Celebrant and Father Robert Congdon will be the Homilist.

Lying in State will be held Friday, January 1, 2010 from 2-4pm at Regina Cleri Residence, 60 William Cardinal O’Connell Way, Boston MA 02114 (617-523-1861).

Condolences would be best sent to Msgr. Cunninham's sister, Sr. Theresa Cunningham, SND 136 Nichols Avenue Watertown, MA 02472-4147.
