CLSA Member Named Bishop of Evansville

Pope Benedict XVI has named Father Charles C. Thompson, 50, vicar
general of the Archdiocese of Louisville, Kentucky, and pastor of Holy
Trinity Parish in Louisville, to succeed Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger
of Evansville, Indiana, 75, and accepted Bishop Gettelfinger’s
resignation from the pastoral governance of the diocese.
Bishop-Elect Thompson was born in Louisville in 1961, and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Louisville in 1987. He received his
Licentiate in Canon Law from St. Paul University in Ottawa in 1992 and has been an Active member of the Society since 1993.
The Bishop-Elect has served as metropolitan judicial
vicar and director of tribunals, defender of the bond and judge of the diocesan tribunal,
and as pastor at several parishes.
