Please remember in your prayers Sister Marilyn Phillips,
OSF, JCD, who entered eternal life on December 8, 2011. Sister Marilyn, having
turned 95 on November 19, 2011, was still active as Defender of the Bond in the
Joliet Tribunal. She was working on cases up to the time she was hospitalized on
November 28, 2011.
Sister Phillips was born in Avilla, IN to Joseph and Emma
Phillips. She entered the convent of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred
Heart, Frankfort, IL on April 3, 1934 and made perpetual profession of vows on
October 4, 1939. Sister received her BA from St. Francis College, Joliet, IL,
and her MA from the University of Notre Dame. Later she received a Ph. D. in
Canon Law from St. Paul University, Ottawa, Canada. Sister spent many years as
an educator, teaching junior high through college age students. She also was
elected to our General Council for one term. She was then appointed Judge of
the Joliet Diocesan Matrimonial Tribunal where she ministered for over 25
years.
Sister Marilyn was an active member of the Canon Law Society
of American since 1983.
