Please remember in your prayers Sister Marilyn Phillips, OSF, JCD, who entered eternal life on December 8, 2011. Sister Marilyn, having turned 95 on November 19, 2011, was still active as Defender of the Bond in the Joliet Tribunal. She was working on cases up to the time she was hospitalized on November 28, 2011.

Sister Phillips was born in Avilla, IN to Joseph and Emma Phillips. She entered the convent of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Frankfort, IL on April 3, 1934 and made perpetual profession of vows on October 4, 1939. Sister received her BA from St. Francis College, Joliet, IL, and her MA from the University of Notre Dame. Later she received a Ph. D. in Canon Law from St. Paul University, Ottawa, Canada. Sister spent many years as an educator, teaching junior high through college age students. She also was elected to our General Council for one term. She was then appointed Judge of the Joliet Diocesan Matrimonial Tribunal where she ministered for over 25 years.

Sister Marilyn was an active member of the Canon Law Society of American since 1983.

May she rest in peace.
