Monsignor John Vincent Kerr died of cancer on June, 2, 2012
at 8:22 p.m. at The Precious Blood Monastery in Hamilton, Ontario. He was 60
years old and in his 32nd year of the priesthood.
Monsignor Kerr was born in Northern Ireland and ordained a
priest in 1979. A past member of the Canon Law Society of America, he earned
his doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1987 and
spent four years working in the Apostolic Signatura.
He served in multiple roles in the Diocese of Hamilton
including Associate Pastor at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Hamilton,
Blessed Sacrament Parish in Kitchener and St. Gabriel Parish in Burlington. At
the time of his death Monsignor Kerr was Judicial Vicar and Chancellor for the
Diocese. He also served as Chaplain to the Sisters of St. John the Baptist and
to the Sisters of the Precious Blood in Hamilton, where he resided upon his
