Monsignor James Anthony McDaid

Monsignor James Anthony McDaid was born in Ramelton, Co. Donegal, Ireland, in 1948. He is a graduate of
the Pontifical Lateran University in Philosophy, Theology and also holds a Doctorate of Canon Law, conferred by the same Pontifical University.

He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado, USA, on December 6, 1975. He served in various pastoral assignments in the Archdiocese. He also served in the Metropolitan Tribunal in a variety of positions. He has been Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Denver and has also held the post of Judicial Vicar of the Provincial Court of Appeals for Marriage Cases for the Province of Denver. He has served on the Presbyteral Council, the College of Consultors, as Chairman of the Archbishop’s Board of Theological Advisors, Censor Librorum, Secretary for Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Denver and as Adjunct Professor of Canon Law at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver.

Since 1995 he has served as an Official at the Congregation for the Clergy in the Vatican City State where he currently holds the position of "Capo Ufficio” or "Department Head.” He has been appointed as a Commissioner for the Dispensations from the obligations of Holy Orders and as a Defender of the Bond for "Ratum et non consummatum” cases at the Congregation for the Sacraments; he is a Judge on the Appellate Tribunal of the Province of Lazio at the Vicariate of Rome and has been appointed as a Member of the Commission for Advocates at the Apostolic Signatura.

Throughout his ministry, Monsignor McDaid has given many lectures and talks especially on Church Law and related ecclesiastical subjects. He holds Diplomas in Music from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin and Trinity College, London and has conducted Church choirs. He is also licensed as a Private Pilot
